_Seed Swap Sunday

Spent the afternoon at Seed Swap Sunday, Bruce Castle, in Haringey.  The place was bustling - lots of interesting connections and conversations, and plenty of seeds to take home.  I now have Sweet Pea, Angelica, Lovage, Hollyhock, Wallflower and Red Orache [edible?] to add to my allotment.

I'm beginning to wonder if I should be at the Royal College of Art or the Royal College of Agriculture...

  1. We met at the seed swap day. Great event! Red Orach is edible, the young leaves can be used in salads, and the mature leaves can be cooked like spinach. Check out www.jekkasherbfarm.com

  2. Thanks for the link - I met Jekka a year or so ago, at Art in Action, Oxford - she had a wonderful selection of plants. Looking forward to getting everything going in my allotment over the next month.

Hope to see you at one of the EDIBLE : PERENNIAL events in Crouch End \ Hornsey during March.

  4. Hi Bethany
Angelica is edible and fantastically statuesque
Lovage is like a more strongly flavoured, perennial celery - the seeds are particularly good
Hollyhock leaves are edible (though uninteresting) and the flowers edible too and stunning on the plate
However wallflower is not edible and beware, nor is Sweet Pea, despite the tasty name! (Give the seeds away and grow nasturtiums instead...)

I have some perennial rocket seeds you can have too.
